Dr. Perrotte was happy for the opportunity to collaborate with TXST faculty Dr. Natalie Ceballos and Dr. Reiko Graham, along with several awesome TXST students on this recently published paper, which offers a rare glimpse at how specific risky drinking practices relate to salivary cortisol. The team found that women who pregame (i.e., consume alcohol prior to an event where more alcohol will be consumed) differ from women who don’t in the following ways: a) drink to intoxication at an earlier age; b) consume more alcohol overall; c) binge drink more frequently; d) are more motivated to drink to enhance or avoid negative affect; e) and have an attenuated cortisol awakening response (CAR)
