The data published in this report are from a sample of Hispanic and Latina/o/x young adults, collected during the summer just before they began college for the first time. U.S. acculturation is an established risk factor for alcohol use among Latina women in the U.S., and this paper focuses exclusively on the Latina women in the sample. We examined how acculturation processes contribute to increased intentions to use alcohol. We found that behavioral U.S. acculturation (i.e., orienting toward mainstream U.S. practices) relates to greater intentions to use alcohol only when participants expect alcohol to have positive effects.
